How the DHS is Promoting Entrepreneurship for Immigrants

A foreign entrepreneur can be admitted into the U.S. through the International Entrepreneur Parole Program (IEPP) if they demonstrate that they will provide a significant public benefit. Below, our Orange county immigration team outlines everything you need to know about this program and how it can benefit you.

Eligibility Requirements

Under the IEPP, parolees must meet several requirements. Applicants must:

  • A central and active role in an American startup within the last five years
  • Hold at least a 10% ownership stake in the startup.
  • Demonstrate the startup has received at least $250,000 in investments, or a government grant of at least $100,000, within the 18 months preceding the IEPP application

Additionally, applicants must provide evidence of the startup's growth and job creation potential.

The Benefits of the IEPP

IEPP not only allows immigrants to pursue their dreams in the U.S. but also benefits the economy. This program encourages entrepreneurs worldwide to create high-growth startups in the United States. The DHS expects upwards of 2,900 entrepreneurs to qualify for the IEPP, leading to technological innovations and, more importantly, thousands of new jobs for American workers.

In addition to eligible applicants' spouses and children accompanying them to the United States, the IEPP also offers parole for children.

It is highly recommended to seek the legal guidance of an immigration attorney to verify your eligibility and avoid many common mistakes when applying for the IEPP.
