What Are the Wage Levels According to the DOL?

When an applicant goes through the H-1B visa process, they are required to submit it to the Department of Labor (DOL). The Department of Labor is responsible for ensuring that the foreign worker’s wages are where they should be. The H-1B employee wages are based on the prevailing wages data collected under Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) Program by DOL based on a location, job title, experience, and few other criteria.

Below are the four H-1B wage levels that are defined by DOL and OES program:

  • H-1B Wage Level 1 (Entry): This wage level is for workers who have a basic understanding of the job. The wages for this level are typically between $38k to $51k salary.
  • H-1B Wage Level 2 (Qualified): Level two is for qualified workers with the education and experience needed to perform moderate tasks with limited judgment. The wages for this level are typically between $51k to $65k salary.
  • H-1B Wage Level 3 (Experienced): This wage level is for experienced workers who have extensive experience attained through their education and previous roles. The wages for this level are typically between $65k to $75k salary.
  • H-1B Wage Level 4 (Fully Competent): This wage level is for the most expert level of workers who can do complex tasks and can exercise a lot of judgment in their activities. This level of workers may include management responsibilities. The wages for this level are typically between $78k to $90k salary.
