Yesterday, the Senate seemed to be extraordinarily close to passing new protections for “Dreamers” (those eligible or currently under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA). Yet, President Donald Trump had threated to veto the bill partly because it did not include limits on family based visas and the removal of the diversity lottery.

This bi-partisan bill had been seen as the best chance at protecting the “Dreamers” due to the $25 billion in border security exchange democrats made on behalf of the young immigrants.

Debates on this bill will continue throughout the week. Both sides will have the opportunity to make their amendments. Members of the Senate are carefully crafting their compromises to get the bill the necessary 60 votes. The Senate is scheduled for a week-long recess beginning Monday, February 19, 2018, yet, if you would like live updates on this bill please visit here.
